HOW TO GET THE EASY CUSTOMERS
- 1. KNOW YOUR END GOALThe goal of your phone should be to earn a commission by closing a sale or closing an appointment (that leads to a sale). Whether you’re able to answer every inbound call or not, it only makes sense to know exactly what you’re going to say when a customer calls. You must have a voicemail message that’s so powerful the caller feels that it could be a mistake if they don’t leave a message for you.
- 2. KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU’RE GOING TO SAY- Write a sexy script for your voicemail. Sexy probably doesn’t mean what you think it means in this case. Use a script that people don’t expect to hear, and make them leave a voicemail. If you’re not sure what that script should be, use this one: “Hey! This is (your name) and I wish I could answer your call. But I can’t. I’m going to call you as soon as I’m free. If you already know what year, make, and model of motorcycle you want, leave that in your message with your name and number. You can also text if it’s easier. Leave your name and number. We’ll talk soon. Thanks”.
- 3. PRACTICE YOUR SCRIPT– You have to practice your script until it sounds so good that you can actually listen to your recorded voice and love it. Record your voicemail, and then… no matter what, leave it! Many people never think their voicemail sounds good enough but that’s just something that you have to deal with. Record your voicemail and then walk away.
- 4. DO SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR TEXTING– When an inbound caller fails to leave a voicemail for you, have a good text message ready to go. If you don’t know who the caller was and they didn’t leave a message, send a text message that’s pre-scripted and encourages them to answer back. I recommend calling the number back but if they don’t answer, send a text that makes them want to talk.
- 5. FOLLOW-UP WITH EVERYONE– Do what you’re voicemail says you’re going to do. Call everyone back as soon as possible. Research continues to show that more than the majority of customers never get a call back. Don’t be that person. Call everyone back and call them until they answer.
